If you were offered a position as a Northern Tier staff member, first off CONGRATULATIONS!!! we look forward to your arrival. Secondly, Prior to employment at Northern Tier, prospective staff must complete a few items including required paperwork, online certifications and medical clearance. "Be Prepared " by completing these items today!

Items Required for Employement at Northern Tier

Read this list carefully! Some items must be completed and returned prior to staff arrival at Northern Tier while other items must be submitted by hand upon staff arrival at Northern Tier.
Please return items via fax or mail only, to ATTN: Seasonal Personnel.

1. “Terms of Seasonal Employment” offer with signature of acceptance. This will be emailed to you.

2. Job Profile with signature of acceptance. This will be emailed to you.
Completed and returned prior to arrival.

3. W-4 Form
Completed and returned prior to arrival.

4. Direct Deposit – Submit with voided check.

5. Certifications - After creating a name and password at myscouting.org all staff must complete several Boy Scouts of America online training courses including

  • Youth Protection
  • Weather Hazards
  • Safe Swim (summer staff)
  • Safety Afloat (summer staff)

All staff must also complete Unlawful Harassment Prevention Training through the LawRoom online.

Current certification in Wilderness First Aid (16-hour course) and CPR is also required for all trail staff. WFA and CPR will be offered as a part of summer staff training.
Winter Staff must complete WFA and CPR certifications prior to their start date.

Proof of all certifications must be submitted to Northern Tier prior to staff arrival.

6. Special Dietary Needs Form - Please submit to Northern Tier prior to your arrival if you have any special dietary needs.

7. All Ely Trail Staff (Interpreters and OA Foremen) with a valid U.S. Passport are required to provide a passport photocopy and completed Remote Area Border Crossing (RABC) Permit prior to arrival (summer staff only). The fees associated with the RABC will be paid by Northern Tier (do not include your personal credit card information). Please do not fill out the box labeled ‘Purpose of the Trip’.

8. Working in Atikokan, ON – If you will be working at the Atikokan Base, and you are currently a student or will be a student in the fall, please provide either a letter from your school stating that you are enrolled OR an unofficial transcript that shows you are enrolled in the current calendar year.

9. Canadian Citizens: In addition to the items listed above, Canadian citizens are required to provide the following items prior to employment. 1. Copy of your Social Insurance Number, 2. Copy of police record check, 3. Copy of Vulnerable Sector Check.

10. Staff Handbook - Please review prior to arrival.

11. Northern Tier Staff Policies with signature of acceptance.

12. BSA Health and Medical Record. Must be completed within the 12 months prior to your last day of employment. Copy of Medical insurance card if applicable

13. I-9 Form
Required upon arrival.

Review the section on supporting documentation carefully. All Staff MUST present original identification with the form. Copies cannot be accepted.

14. BSA Registration - All staff must be current members of the Boy Scouts of America or Scouts Canada. Staff may elect to obtain membership upon arrival. Cost of membership is $2.00/month while employed. If you are already a member of the BSA or Scouts Canada, please bring proof of membership.
